Memorial Day 2013

Memorial Day 2013

To all the men and women that have served our country: We salute you today. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice.

One Week to Go!

This time next week, this happens. 7 days (6 days a few hours and many seconds).

There is something so exciting when you see the final product coming together, after months (and sometimes years) of staring at it in a word document, you see it laid out on the page. Then you see the cover and it fits. You dig into your wallet, copyright it, buy those ISBNs and things just got real.

Self publishing has its drawbacks, sure. You set your own deadlines. You may or not chose to hire an editor. Covers- to pay photostock and risk having a cover that matches someone else- or do you have a photoshoot to do something different (thanks again Nick and Brian for putting up with me on shoot day!) You read, your friends read. You putter with little words. You rearrange paragraphs. You stress it’s not enough.

But seeing it on the pages. Not just word justified for print. You SEE the pages laid out- where the words shouldn’t disappear into the gutter, where the paragraph cuts off to the next page, where the poem you poured your character’s heart out fit just perfectly- LIKE YOU PLANNED IT. Sure a deletion here of a breakout sentence, hours trying to be sure the margins fit right so the words don’t get lost, or that one line remains on that last page of a chapter.

But YOU did it.

You set your goal, you did what you have to do to make it happen. Self pubbing can wreak havoc to your nerves and you stuck it out. The product is there.

Seeing it come together is a wonderful feeling.

Nothing can get you down at that moment- no fear of rejection, bad reviews, or bad sales.

One week to go and that feeling is going to take over everything. I can’t wait to share it with you all!

Happy Saturday folks! A day early I know. Maybe I’ll just have to come back again tomorrow!

Cover Reveal!

HF coverfull

Pleasant Sunday my friends!

With thirteen days until the E-release of Healing Faith, I am so excited to show you the cover reveal! June 1st marks the release of my debut novel in the In Your World series on Amazon and Smashwords, with the print version following soon after! It’s been a long ride but the end looks bright with a cover finished and uploads being made to prepare for the release!

Next week I will offer a little tease to whet your whistle, and hopefully be able to count down with you daily as the week runs down to the big day.

So who’s excited for this?!

I won’t sleep for another two weeks at least!

Happy Sunday my friends!

We’ll see you again soon!

Pleasant Sunday all! And to those wonderful mothers, mothers to be, mothers in our memories, and mothers at heart, HAPPY MOTHER’S Day!

The countdown has begun; as I scramble with every little last bit to get this first novel published, I can’t believe how much I have learned about writing and publishing! Formatting, reformatting, re-reformatting- trim size and bleed- I am becoming a pro at InDesign and Photoshop, and learning that converting to mobi and epub is not as easy as it leads itself to be!

But the end is near and with each word change and removal of unneeded paragraph returns, this book is coming together. I made the decision to leave it a little longer than your average first novel in a series- the benefit and curse to being your own publisher. I am happy to share the words with my readers, and in the end, it means you get more for your money.

Next Sunday I will be revealing the cover- I am so very excited to share the image that will be the anchor to offering this love story. A picture says a thousand words so they say, and I hope you will agree once you seen the inspiration I have chosen. June 1st is just around the corner, and I can’t wait to share this with you all.

Until then, may you have a pleasant Sunday! Enjoy the beginnings of summer for many, and may this week pass quickly so we can come together again next week!

Much love!

This is Really Happening!

Pleasant Sunday my friends!

We’re about a month away from the ebook release of Healing Faith and I can’t tell you how excited-terrified-stressed I am over it!

I had made the decision to self publish this first novel, knowing that it would be a rough road to journey, without editors, without a creative team, without a cover artist. It was a daunting decision- not just for the lack of professional support, but for the timeline I hoped to adhere to even with a very busy work schedule at my “bill paying” job this spring. But I had faith- and as the deadline fast approaches and I look at the “nearly” finished product, several feelings rush through me:

Pride (not a very Amish trait, but then again, I’m not Amish)

Self-Doubt- will it EVER be good enough? when is it enough? How many times have I changed “said” to “replied” or “stated”?! When do you become counterproductive?

Joy- because I see the light at the end of the tunnel and it’s beginning to blind me, in a good way. It’s close.

Terror- critiques, the ever present bullying of authors such as me that write about something that could be viewed as either romantic or perverted. Time to toughen the skin for those comments and keep my head up.

Appreciation- for those readers that have followed faithfully and have offered up words of support, suggestion, and even the criticism I need to carry on.

I suppose this Sunday is a reflection on how wonderful this experience has been. This story has gone through many transformations, many deletions, many posted threads on Facebook and twitter and in forums. I am thankful for the support I have received, the love and friendships I have made while writing and posting, and the tears shed over a story that has occupied my time for the last year and a half.

Baby’s growing up- No more running. No more poking at words to fluff. Just words of love and appreciation to all those that have made this happen. So many of you, and many more to come I hope.

Thank you for following along on this journey and here’s to a new start!

Happy Sunday my dears!
